Imported Foods, Ales, Gifts, & Tea Room

If you cannot remember the exact address it is definitely easy to remember the location; on Royal Street just off King Street…how appropriate. No matter if you are a homesick "Brit" or an American tea lover, The Tea Cosy & The British Connection is a great find.

Proprietor Vivian Bacon used to travel back to her home of Norwich at least twice a year. Every time she came back she brought with her bags full of the food items she could not get over here. She then started getting "orders" from her friends and soon realized that there was a market for these fine British products over here in the states. From this came two of the most unique places in the Washington Metro area.

The Tea Cosy ~ The Tea Cosy is the first room you enter off Royal Street. It is just like the tea rooms you would find traveling from hamlet to hamlet through the British Isles. It is a calm escape; a casual down to earth experience. Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon teas are served in the traditional British fashion. Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, crumpets, scones, assorted tea sandwiches, and biscuits to name just a few. Lunch offers favorites such as Scottish beef pie, English pork pie, Cornish pastie, Sheperd’s pie, steak & kidney pie, bangers & mash, and a variety of salads. Oh yes, and of course the finest tea around, served with afternoon tea which includes a choice of 10 types of scones, apricot, lemon, and ginger.

While you relax with your cup of tea, why not read British magazines and see what the Royals are up to? All of these and much more can be found in The British Connection.

The British Connection ~ The British Connection is stacked full of British goods such as British ales, coffee mugs, candies, canned goods such as Heinz (original British recopies), and much more. Again, homesick "Brits" take note! This is the place for you. As a "non-Brit" you will find many new and delicious items to experience.

The shops are open 6 days a week and offer a relaxing atmosphere to chat with friends, make new ones, or simply relax with a cup of tea and read a book. Come experience a little bit of her Majesty’s kingdom right here in Old Town.
