More Atmosphere than the Moon!

If you are familiar with the restaurant scene in Old Town then read no more because you know all about Stardust Restaurant & Lounge…you are probably already a regular! If not, feast your eyes on these words!

The Stardust Restaurant & Lounge has been described as "part 50’s funk and part Hollywood schmaltz" and as a "Colorful, whimsical addition to the culinary scene in Old Town." Co-Owner Avery Kincaid best describes it as "After art-deco and before avocado green!" I feel it is up to each and everyone to find their own meanings in its’ enchanting, unique atmosphere. It definitely has variety. You may want to hang out in the bar and lounge area. It’s a great bar, with cocktail tables off to the side overlooking Washington Street. The room is adorn with a variety of 50’s memorabilia, from toasters to movie projectors, lava lamps tourist knick-knacks. Sometimes, when happy hour gets rockin’, you will even see one of the bartenders sporting a fez…hey, bartenders will do anything for a good tip! (I know, I used to be one!) Dinner is also served here in cozy booths. The perfect setting to people watch.

There are two other rooms to dine. The front room is full of light from large plate glass windows. There is an unusual elevated fireplace and the architecture is interesting with skylights adding the final touches. The back dining area is defiantly cozy. The beamed ceiling is covered in stars creating a very romantic mood. To top the room off there is a 5-foot wide fireplace. It doesn’t matter if you are looking for a casual place to hang with friends or you are there for a special occasion, Stardust will always work. They express their versatility through their white linen tablecloths that are covered with white butcher paper!

What is a restaurant without great food? I have mentioned one owner, Avery Kincaid. If you are local you may recognize her from the famous R.T.’s in Del Ray. She and business partner John Kilkenny have brought on board Executive Chef Pat Phatlphing. The emphasis is on seafood and Chef Pat brings his influences of Asian, Italian, French, Cajun, and regional American to create some of the most interesting dishes I’ve ever seen. Also included in his repertoire are great dishes consisting of shellfish such as giant clams, Dungeness crab, green lip mussels, and calico bay scallops. He also prepares some of the finest game dishes including venison, ostrich, guinea hen, wild boar, and foie gras. For more information on their fusion menu please visit their website at http://www.stardustrestaurant.com/

Hey, another added bonus is the Stars. You never know whom you’ll see. John Hogan, Jack Germond, Janet Reno and even Mary Ann from Gilligan’s Island have been seen here regularly! Come on by for something new…where there is more atmosphere than the moon!
