La Bergerie is a French word, which roughly translates to a sheltered area in which the shepherd keeps his sheep during a storm. The owners of the restaurant, Bernard and Jean Campagne-Ibarcq, chose this name for their restaurant because it reminded them of their childhood and the animals they tended to, growing up on their farm in the Southwest of France.

They brought a little bit of France with them when they opened La Bergerie in 1974. The two brothers immigrated to the United States from the picturesque Basque region of Southwest of France. La Bergerie has long since been famous for both its award-winning French cuisine and Basque Specialties, and its professional and friendly service.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, VA., La Bergerie offers a cozy and relaxed setting in a historic brick warehouse, just two blocks from the Potomac River. Always voted one of the area's favorite restaurants, La Bergerie welcomes new diners and faithful regulars with genuine warmth and friendliness.
